Fanny Keni: Turning Determination Into a Lifelong Dream
Fanny Keni was born on June 7th, 1999, in Ghana. Her life took a difficult turn at the age of six when she lost her father. Raised by her single mother alongside two siblings, Fanny grew up in a household sustained by subsistence farming. From a young age, she worked on the family farm and helped sell surplus produce to meet the family’s basic needs.
Despite the financial strain, Fanny remained a bright, hardworking student with a deep desire to serve her community. She dreamed of becoming a Community Health Nurse—a goal she feared might remain out of reach due to the cost of higher education.
Thanks to the support of Aid for the Future (AFT) and generous donor contributions, Fanny’s path to a better future began to take shape. AFT covered 60% of her school-related expenses—including tuition, exam fees, accommodation, and health insurance—while her family contributed the remaining 40% for pocket money and minor expenses.
With this vital support, Fanny secured admission to a Nursing Training College in Accra. Although the COVID-19 pandemic caused a significant disruption, delaying her graduation from 2021 to 2023, she remained focused and determined throughout.
In 2023, Fanny successfully completed her training and is now preparing to begin her career as a Community Health Nurse. AFT is actively supporting her transition into the workforce, helping her find employment where she can make a meaningful impact in underserved communities.
Fanny’s story is a powerful example of what can be achieved when determination meets opportunity. Her success would not have been possible without the generosity of donors like you.
